Release Update — Units, Images & Crop Improvements

Improved unit handling across profiles and recipes, plus higher-quality images and a new crop workflow for better banners and thumbnails.

Today we shipped a small but noticeable upgrade to GrindNDine that makes creating, viewing and sharing recipes more delightful.

Here’s what you’ll notice right away:

Smarter units everywhere

  • Set your preferred unit system in your profile (Metric or Imperial) and new recipes will follow that preference automatically.
  • When you add ingredients the app now offers a cleaner, more focused unit selector so you can enter quantities faster.
  • Behind the scenes we made units consistent across profiles and recipes — that means fewer surprises and nicer, more readable ingredient lists.

Why you’ll like it:

  • Less fiddling when creating a recipe — choose your favorite unit system once and the app helps you from there.
  • Ingredients look neat and consistent when you share recipes with friends.

Sharper images and an easy crop tool

  • Uploading images is nicer: photos are now processed to look sharper and avoid the blocky artifacts you might have seen before.
  • Thumbnails still stay neat and square for lists and avatars, while the main recipe image keeps its natural look.
  • New crop modal: when you upload a photo you can position the most important part of your picture — defaults are sensible (profile photos are square, recipe banners are landscape).

Why you’ll like it:

  • Recipe pages look better on large screens — banners are taller and better framed so your photos shine.
  • On mobile everything stays compact and readable.
  • You control the composition: crop once and the app keeps the areas that matter for both thumbnails and banners.

What's next

  • Unit conversions between Metric and Imperial are coming soon — making it easy to switch between cups, grams and ounces.
  • We’re also exploring even smaller, faster image formats to make pages load quicker while keeping image quality high.

If you try these features, please tell us what you think — the in-app feedback form is the fastest way to reach us.
